Fire Pit!

We picked this area out for the barbeque / fire pit the first day we looked at it.  It was the perfect spot.  It had enough clearance and a great view of the creek.  The digging and leveling took a very long time.  I give all the credit to my husband, he did all the work himself.

It took about 4 yards of gravel to fill the 20 ft. diameter circle.

 



We used the logs from the 60+ year old pine tree
that had to be taken down.  

 

It is a 40 foot slope / drop down to the creek. 
From this spot, it looks like an infinity fire pit.

 

Our favorite things are the stories that are told, the s'mores, and stargazing.  On a clear night, you can see millions of stars
and satellites orbiting.  On occasion, we see lightning bugs,
also known as fireflies!

 

The Second Bedroom!

Despite this room being the nicest in the cabin, we decided to repaint it anyway.  We installed new blinds and a new ceiling fan too. 

 

 

We purchased the bunk beds and bedding from Walmart.

The paintings were painted by a family member and  I am very grateful they were offered to me.  The sconces were $12 each at a resale shop and the armoire was $45 at a garage sale.

 

Master Bedroom - Fox Hunt Theme!

The master bedroom needed paint, a new ceiling fan and blinds.  The carpet was in descent shape, so we cleaned it and kept it (for now).  For years, I have wanted a "Fox Hunt" themed room.  It has taken over a year to collect all the pictures, furniture, bedding, and lamps from various garage sales. It is my favorite room in the cabin!  

We think the odd space between the closets was once a vanity, based on the drywall indentions and patch jobs.

 

 

 

We warmed up the room by painting the ceiling, walls, trim and baseboards all the same color with Sherwin Williams, Practical Beige - SW6100.  We liked it so much, that we painted the rest of the cabin the same color.

The chest of drawers on the right was purchased at an estate sale for $20.

This is the chest of drawers that I purchased for $150 from an online resale site.  When we showed up to purchase it, we discovered it was a bathroom vanity with a granite top.  I didn't realize what a great deal we had gotten until I did some research.   The toleware lamp was $15 and the shadow box was only $8.

The first "Fox Hunt" picture I purchased was only $5!

The dresser was white and used to be in my daughter's room.    I got brave and decided to paint it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  I don't like the way it turned out, so it will be re-painted again.  The secretary desk was purchased at a garage sale for $40!  I am still looking for the perfect chair or stool and another small toleware lamp for the top.

One day, we hope to add French doors to the back porch.

 

Breakfast Room!

 

The breakfast room needed new blinds, fresh paint, and a different light fixture.  The walls were already primed, so it saved us

a lot of time.

 

 

The table and chairs are an old Ethan Allen set I purchased from my sister.  The color was originally the same blonde wood  as the chairs.  When it warms up, I plan to paint the chairs black too.

 

Kitchen Update!

 

The kitchen needed new appliances and a fresh coat of paint just to make it livable.  I can't wait to change out the countertops, add tin to the ceiling and/or backsplash and decorate it.

 

 

 

 

Based on the hinges, I think the original hardware was copper.  It looks like someone spray painted them silver.

 

 

 

Bathroom Renovation!

The bathroom needed some serious help! Before and after pics below.

 

The bathroom needed just about everything to make it livable. 

New tub surround and fixtures were a must.

 

The flooring and cabinetry were both in good condition.

A new toilet was first on the list!

Additional wiring had to be installed for the new light fixtures.



We chose exterior lighting from Lowes.

While our contractor was replacing the tub surround, a cat jumped out from behind the tub.  He decided to remove the tub to see how it was gaining access to the inside of the house.  As you can see, the subfloor was almost nonexistent.  What a mess!  A new subfloor was installed along with all new Pex plumbing throughout the cabin.

The job took longer than expected so we could only make a day trip to see the progress.

What a difference!

Rather than replacing the drywall, we chose to install cedar planks to cover the settling cracks.



We purchased the faux wood blinds from Home Depot.
